Three-star school approach

25 Nov 2024

Together, we can improve the lives of Burundians.

Across Burundi, our programs are empowering communities to live healthy lives and improve their living conditions.

As part of the drive to improve hygiene conditions in schools, the Ministry of National Education and Scientific Research organized a workshop to coordinate all those involved in the sector. This workshop took place on August 20, 2024.

In this workshop, SaCoDé, represented by Ms Grace Françoise Nibizi/ Founder and Executive Director, was invited to present the School's three-star approach.

At the end of the workshop, the following recommendations were made:

  1. Ownership and leadership of the Water, Hygiene and Sanitation (WASH) sector in schools by the Ministry in charge of Education, with the establishment of a coordination framework for the WASH sector in schools with the Ministries in charge of Public Health, Hydraulics, Finance and the Interior;

  2. Updating of the WASH policy by the Ministry in charge of hydraulics and development of the WASH in schools strategy;

  3. Development/strengthening of the system for regular monitoring of the WASH sector in schools, based on indicators aligned with the SDGs (4 and 6);

  4. Integration of WASH in schools evaluation criteria into school performance evaluation indicators;

  5. Updating the National Diagnostic of school infrastructure and equipment.
